Floor studied Communication Sciences at VU Amsterdam with a minor in health communication. This minor inspired her to pursue a Master’s degree in Medical Humanities at Utrecht University. During her studies, she developed a strong focus on accessible healthcare and equality, with a focus on how scientific insights can be made understandable and relevant to a wide audience.
Floor strongly believes in the importance of science for society. She believes that research findings do not belong solely within academic walls, but should be clearly communicated to the outside world so that everyone can benefit from them. For her, effective communication forms a bridge between knowledge and society. This is particularly true within healthcare, where a lack of, or inability to understand, health-related knowledge can lead to health inequalitie.
Translating scientific knowledge to everyone who can benefit from it is what motivates me. Drawing on my background in Communication Studies and Medical Humanities, I see an opportunity to contribute to a fair and healthy future
At LCHL, Floor ensures that news and updates from the centre are communicated both within and outside the university. This enables the centre’s work to have an impact in both the teaching and research spheres. Her responsibilities include:
