Within this project, dr. Mahsa Shabani is actively involved in the consortium, addressing the legal aspects of developing and implementing such AI tool in the primary care setting.
This programme allocates €65 million to four selected consortia, with an additional €182 million contributed by industry and societal partners. The aim is to stimulate innovation and address urgent societal challenges through long-term collaboration between academia, healthcare organisations, industry, and civil society.

These developments make it more challenging for general practitioners (GPs) to quickly and accurately determine the most appropriate diagnostic pathway for patients.
The Trinitas HORIZON project responds to these challenges by developing an AI-supported diagnostic platform that brings together patient data and supports clinical decision-making.
The platform is designed to enable a “first-time-right” diagnosis by:
reducing unnecessary tests and referrals
By improving diagnostic efficiency, the project aims to shorten waiting times and ensure that healthcare remains accessible, affordable, and effective for both patients and healthcare professionals.
The project is coordinated by UMC Utrecht and brings together a wide range of academic, clinical, and societal partners across the Netherlands.
