The appointment takes effect on 1 September 2026 and is for a period of four years. Her appointment is a recognition of her collaborative leadership, vision for the university, and outstanding academic achievements in education and research.
Anniek has played a pivotal role in the development of the Law Centre for Health and Life. She founded the Centre and led it together initially with Prof. dr. Johan Legemaate, and now with dr. Katrina Perehudoff, mr. dr. Rolinka Wijne and dr. Mahsa Shabani, establishing the Centre as a leading centre of excellence for research and higher education at the intersection of law and health. In addition to founding the Law Centre for Health and Life, Anniek was closely involved in the development of UvA’s Master's programme in Health Law and UvA’s Bachelor's minor programme in Health Technologies, Law and Bioethics.
While assuming her new role as rector magnificus, Anniek will remain involved with the Law Centre for Health and Life as a researcher, contributing to the Centre’s academic community and research activities.
