On June 18, 2026, the workshop brought together leading international experts in intellectual property law, human rights, health law and related disciplines, the event provided a forum for interdisciplinary discussion on the implications of patent systems for health, human rights and bioethical values. Throughout the workshop, participants examined how human rights and bioethical frameworks can inform responses to the health impacts of patent systems and shape the governance of technologies related to the human body.

As part of a panel on intellectual property rights and global health, Katrina presented research examining the potential scope of the European Union’s extra-territorial legal responsibilities regarding access to medicines. Her presentation drew on work from her Veni-funded project, Global Access to Medicines through EU Law and Policy.
