In addition to the presentation of the University of Amsterdam’s new strategic plan by Vinod Subramaniam, chair of the UvA Executive Board, another special moment took center stage during the opening of the academic year: Peter-Paul Verbeek handed over the rectorship of the UvA to Anniek de Ruijter.

As the founder of the Law Center for Health and Life, Anniek has made a significant contribution in recent years to both the Master’s program in Health Law and to research in the field of health law. Her appointment as rector magnificus therefore fills us at the Center with great pride.

Although Anniek will assume a new role at the UvA starting September 1, she will remain affiliated with the Law Centre for Health and Life. As a professor, Anniek will continue to be part of our academic community and remain involved in the Center’s research activities.
