How can medical AI be developed and used equitably—in accordance with new and existing regulations, while fostering innovation and economic incentives—to ensure that underrepresented groups benefit from AI-based healthcare advancements and that fairness and justice in healthcare are achieved?

The consortium

The ELSA Lab AI for Health Equity is composed of a diverse group of  academic institutions, healthcare organisations, industry partners, and societal stakeholders (see healthy-ai.org  for full list). This interdisciplinary team brings together the expertise, scientific and technical expertise in law,  ethics, AI, and social and communication sciences required to undertake the work proposed.

The ELSA Lab AI Health Equity is built on a foundation of co-design and co-creation, where the whole community plays a critical role in both the development and execution phases of the work. Academic institutions focus on foundational research and theoretical frameworks, while societal and industry partners ensure the real-world relevance and practical implementation of the resulting frameworks.
